Many were nurses, who coped with intolerable conditions.

Arlington National Cemetery

When I visit Arlington in winter I see the gravestones stretching out before me like so many pillars, their white starkness contrasting against the darkness of the trees. May the people we honour under these boughs remember, we will remember them.

The Three Soldiers Memorial, Washington DC

My attempt in capturing this striking statue was to show these three American soldiers from the Vietnam War, alone against a stark background with nothing but the American flag in colour to show the support of the families at home. The blue edges are the storm from the north enveloping them in danger.

An Ent at Isengard
A location used in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy to show the felling of the trees at Isengard was Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt. When I visit I always look at the older trees in the park and think of the Ents and their supremacy. Reality mirrors film.
